There are five very interesting Emils in this set, the first being Bf 109E-1, 6.\/JG 52, Yellow 2, 1940, with a yellow rudder & cowl, which also sports the unit’s blue\/white stylized eagle. It also has evidence of an earlier tactical number that was painted out, with the Yellow 2 being farther forward than usual. Next is a surprising Bf 109E-1 III.\/JG 53, White 11 + I, Sept 1940. This bird has a broad red cowl stripe, and although it was an E-1, the canopy had been replaced with a “square” type. Next is the even more surprising Bf 109E-4, White 5 + I, of 7.\/JG 53 flown by H. G. Schulte. This ship had a white rudder and cowling, but a previously applied red cowl stripe is bleeding through the white paint. Even more unusual is the fact that the swastika was painted out! Next is the striking Bf 109E-3, Yellow 15, of 3.\/JG 52 flown by Karl Wolff, Oct 1940. This bird not only had a white cowl, the white continued all the way back to the windscreen! The wingtips and rudder where also white. The final subject is Bf 109E-3, Yellow 5, of II.\/JG 52 flown by Paul Gutbrod in Aug 1940. This bird had a yellow cowl and rudder, and also featured the pilot’s name painted under the canopy.
