First is Ralph K. “Kid” Hofer’s P-47C-5-RE, 41-6484, “Missouri Kid\/Sho Me,” QP*L, 4 FG\/334 FS. Not widely realized is the fact that Hofer’s nose art was “shaded” and not “flat” artwork, which makes this ship a perfect PYN-up subject. The second ship is a plum black painted P-47M, HV*J, of the 56 FG\/61 FS. It also had the light blue outlined national insignia common to the 56th’s plum black scheme. This plane had a large portrait of the pilot’s wife painted on the nose and her name, Lorene, painted under the windscreen.
