Description

Me 262 Stormbirds #1. This set features three interesting Sturmvogeln displaying three variations in the standardized Me 262 camouflage scheme. First is Me 262 A-2a, White 3, Ofhr. Hans-Guido Mutke, 9./JG 7, Prague, 1945, currently in Deutsches Museum. Photos taken in Switzerland just after the jet was interned and color photos taken in Germany soon after the plane was returned clearly show the yellow pinstripe outline to the White 3, which is omitted from most illustrations and decals of this plane. The second bird is Me 262 A-1a, Green 4 (Black Bar + Bar), Major Theodor Weissenberger (208 victories), Kommodore, JG 7, Kaltenkirchen, January 1945. This jet has been illustrated many times and also appeared in decal form; we were able to obtain much better photos than usually seen and has appropriately shaped small Green 4 (which had a white pinstripe outline) and highly non-standard JG 7 badge. Also note the red-blue RV band is roughly and unevenly applied at the aft end. Our final subject is Me 262 A-1a, Yellow 7, Ofw Heinz Arnold (49 victories) & Lt Fritz Muller, 11./JG 7, Prague, Spring 1945, a former “Watson’s Whizzer,” currently restored and on display at the US National Air & Space Museum.
