Description
Dashing Fw 190 Doras #1. One of the very best late-war fighters, we now know the Dora also wore some of the most unusual and interesting camouflage and markings schemes in the Luftwaffe. The first ship in this set is Fw 190D-9, Red 3+-, of II./JG 6 discovered by the 7th Armored Division in Halle in 1945. You’ll note the strangely painted cowl and the overpainted previous tactical marking “7.” Dating from mid 1944, the second Fw 190D-9 is Yellow 4 + I of III./JG 54, with a lucky (hopefully to him) shamrock and name “Bums” painted under the canopy. Painted out prior tactical markings are also visible on Fw 190D-9, Blue 9 + – of II./JG 6 discovered by the 69th Infantry Division at Halle in 1945. Ofw Heinz Marquardt flew the Fw 190D-9 marked White 11 + ~ while he was with 13./JG 51 in Germany at the very end of the war. Note the unpainted under cowl panel and replacement gun cover directly in front of the windscreen.
