Description

Yoxford Boys P-51s #2. First is the famous “Moose” P-51D-20-NA, G4*S Bar, 362 FS, 357 FG, 44-63221, flown by Lt Myron Becraft. We were able to determine from color photos that not only was the moose head dark blue, it was actually two-tone blue! Next is Lt Gilbert O’Brien’s “Shanty Irish,” P-51B-5-NA, G4*O, 362 FS, 357 FG, 43-6787.Tom Hayes’ P-51-15-NA, “Frenesi,” C5*N, 364 FS, 357 FG, 44-13318, had an interesting name. During WW II, most aircraft names “Frenesi” were intended to be pronounced as “free-and-easy,” a joke about the airmens’ hopes of the attitude of the local girls. However, Hayes was adamant that his “Frenesi” was to be pronounced “fren-nez-zey” because there was nothing “free-and-easy” about combat with the Luftwaffe over Germany. The final bird is P-51B-7-NA, “Hurry Home Honey,” C5*T, 364 FS, 357 FG, 43-6935, Lt Richard Peterson. We’re quite proud of the fact that our three Yoxford Boys decal sets have been universally acknowledged to be the most accurate of any ever produced. Exhaustively researched, we were aided by several former Yoxford Boys who made their photos available to us.
