AVG & USAAC Tomahawks #1. As I’ve said, I dearly love those Flying Tiger (AVG) Tomahawk schemes!: This set showcases three famous Tiger Tomahawks and one USAAC bird. First is a Hawk 81A-2, Tom Haywood, 3rd Pursuit Squadron AVG. A former Marine, Haywood had a Marine Corps bulldog insignia displayed under his windscreen along with the famous AVG flying tiger “V” insignia doped on (making the background much darker than the rest of the camouflage). Tex Hill personally approved our depiction of the famous Panda #48 Hawk 81A-2he flew while part of the 2nd Pursuit Squadron AVG. Next is the Hawk 81-A-2 (P-40B) flown by Charles Bond, 1st PS, American Volunteer Group, Loiwing, China, 1942. Bond told us he had kill markings painted on his plane, but knew of no photos showing them; we’ve included them on the decal sheet to give you a choice. The final subject is an absolutely stock (and pristine) P-40 (P-40-CU), 35th PS, 8th Pursuit Group, Mitchell Field, NY, 1941. The P-40CU was very similar to the P-40B.
