Description

Do 335s #3. It’s difficult to find a more sensational prop job from WW II than the Do 335 Pfeil (arrow). The five birds featured in this set include the V9, WNr 230009, in standard camouflage with factory code letters. The second is the two-seater Do 335 A-12, WNr 240112, renumbered as Air Ministry 223 and in RAF markings at the time we’ve depicted. The overpainted Luftwaffe markings are clearly visible, and you may model it with the original markings if you wish. Note the unpainted forward engine cowling that makes this such an extraordinary scheme. Of special note is the fact that although originally captured by US forces, the RAF test flew it several times, finally crashing and killing Group Captain Alan Hards when he flew it on 18 January 1946. This led to severe restrictions being placed on flying captured German aircraft at Farnborough. The third bird is also a Do 335 A-12, WNr 240119, RP+UI, and was totally unpainted, although with a very patchy appearance, at the time depicted. Next is the A-03, WNr 240005, VG+PL, in standard camo. The final ship is another two-seater, this time the Do 335 A-12 #114 wearing standard camouflage.
