Description
MiG-Killer F-8 Crusaders Part 5. FINAL 6 SETS! AFTER THEY’RE GONE, NO MORE TO BE HAD. What a beautiful aeroplane! First is MiG-killer F-8H flown by LCDR Bob Kirkwood of the VF-24 Fighting Renegades off the USS Hancock (CVA-19) in March 1968. Did you note the kill marking under the cockpit AND the MiG-17 profile squadron kill markings painted on the under fuselage strake? The other jet is a MiG killing F-8E of the VF-162 Hunters flown by CDR Richard M. Bellinger off the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) on Oct. 9, 1966. This is the bird that scored the Navy’s first MiG-21 kill. Unfortunately, this jet did not carry the Snoopy artwork on the fin cap as did many of the other squadron aircraft.
