Description
SR-71 Blackbird. As you would expect, this was one of our most popular decal sets ever. ONLY 17 SETS AVAILABLE! Not only does this stunning decal set include markings for FOURTEEN jets, you also get a truly amazing bonus decal! This set has so many subjects I was forced to split them into two separate sheets in 1/48 scale, but for you I was able to jam ALL the markings into one 1/72 set. Let’s start with the bonus: a HUGE and dramatic Habu (cobra) marking applied to the nose top of as-yet unidentified SR-71. OK, since it would not show up in side view photos, we can’t tell you which jet this was on, but it was TOO COOL to ignore . . . and when the jet is identified, have at it! The full subjects included are SR-71A, 61-7958, with a large Habu character on the fins; SR-71A, 61-7962, “R.I.P. Detachment 1;” SR-71A, 61-7962, with a pirate skull & crossbones marked on the fins; SR-71A, 61-7971, with a surfing “Spuds MacKenzie” (Budweiser beer mascot dog from the 1980s) chalked on the fin; SR-71A, 61-7972, “Charlie’s Problem” with a very pregnant Lucy cartoon character actually painted on the fins; SR-71A, 61-7974, “Ichi Ban” (Japanese for “number one” or “the best”), a very famous Blackbird with a large mission markings scoreboard for Vietnam overflights (each mission marking is a little Habu snake!); SR-71A, 61-7974, “Leprechaun” was the jet formerly marked “Ichi Ban;” SR-71A, 61-7976, with extremely cool “snarling cat” artwork on the fins – the artwork is quite different on each side; SR-71A, 61-7978, “Rapid Rabbit” with the Playboy Bunny logo on the fin, also a Vietnam overflight veteran during the same time period as “Ichi Ban” and almost certainly also carrying a large scoreboard of Habu mission markings; SR-71A, 61-7979, wearing the most dramatic markings ever applied to a Habu: “Night Hawk,” with similar but different art on each side; SR-71A, 61-7980, with a “farewell” dartboard logo on the fin; SR-71A, 61-7980, “Rosemary’s Baby-San,” actually painted both fins; a two-seat SR-71B, 61-7956, with a very cute “Gumby” character painted on the left fin only; and finally the famous YF-12A, 60-6936, a record flights bird featuring three YF-12 top view silhouettes just below the canopy on each side commemorating the three world records earned in May 1965 (the silhouettes do NOT have anything to do with the AIM-47 Phoenix missile as has sometimes been reported). Whew! Now THAT’S a decal set! Only 17 sets still available.
