Description
PYN-up Decals Stunning ‘Stangs P-51s #2. This set features two Yoxford Boys P-51Ds and our remarkable PYN-up nose art decals. First is the very famous P-51D-5-NA, 44-13691, “Passion Wagon,” G4*A, 362 FS/357 FG, 1944. We’ve included TWO VARIATIONS in the markings to correctly portray the ship when it was flown first by Lt. Arval Roberson and also when it was flown later by Capt Clarence Weaver. Interesting note on the nose art: we had a couple of pretty good photos to work from, but both were taken at fairly acute angles so we had to extrapolate the exact shape of the artwork. Long after the decal was produced, I came across an excellent photo showing the nose art from a near 90 degree angle (boy, I woulda killed for that pic while we were working on our artwork because it would have saved many, many hours of hard work). The best news is that we got the shape right; I’ll publish the photo in an upcoming book so you can see what I mean. The second Mustang is less well known, but carried extremely large (for a P-51) and well-done nose art. This ship is P-51D-10-NA, “Temptation,” 357 FG/362 FS, Lt Matthew Martin, Leiston, England, Late 1944. NOTE THIS DECAL SET CONTAINS NOSE BANDS FOR BOTH THE DRAGON P-51D AND THE HASEGAWA P-51D!!!! The noses of these two kits are quite different and decal nose bands designed for one kit will not fit the other kit.
