Description
PYN-up Decals B-25 Mitchell Honeys #1. Two of my favorite B-25s are featured in this set. First is the dramatically marked B-25D-20-NC (strafer conversion), 41-30592, “Mexican Spitfire,” Lt Merwyn Bruce, 345 BG/500 BS. The dramatic woman and maracas (Mexican percussion musical instruments widely introduced to the world in films by Carmen Miranda and Rita Hayworth) along with an early version of the 345th’s unit insignia on the fin make this an eye-catcher in any collection. In fact, the female figure is highly reminiscent of Carmen Miranda, right down to the “fruit bowl” hat! The second ship, “Mitch The Witch,” was well documented in wonderful color photos and represents the lesser-known 17th Reconnaissance Squadron. This B-25D-25-NC (strafer conversion), 42-87293, was based at Linsayen, Luzon, May 45. I love the “prewar B-25 twin fins” painted on the broomhead! When the dramatic squadron insignia, yellow slashes, white stars, and white fin bottoms are added, you have another centerpiece for any collection!
