Description
PYN-up Decals P-38 Fork-Tailed Beauties #5. This one of the coolest Lightning sets we ever did. First is an early P-38H-5-LO in Dark Olive Drab over Neutral Gray scheme, “Mountain Ayres,” flown by Capt Jerry H. Ayers, CG*Q, 42-67077, 55 FG/38 FS. The truly astounding nose art painted on the removable gun covers was eventually moved to a different Lightning that chalked up 150 missions. Since the original national markings were the simple star-only cocarde, our decals show a “faded” blue circle with fresh Insignia Red (fresh (e.g., darker) Insignia Blue also provided as an option) outlines around the circle and white bars. The second bird is an overall natural metal P-38L-5-LO, “Ready Maid,” flown by Capt. Phil McLain, 44-27132, 8 FG/36 FS. This striking ship went through three distinct markings variations and we provide all three options, including one with dramatic black “antiglare” (painted in GLOSS paint!!) panels on the fuselage and engine cowls. Only 11 sets still available.
