Description
Iraqi Freedom F-14 Heroes #2. This set showcases two VF-31 Tomcatters F-14Ds that flew combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom (well, one did; the second is not so clear). First is the Tomcatters CAG Bird, CAPT Kevin “K.C.” Albright, CAG & CAPT Scott “Notso” Swift, DCAG, which displayed 19 bombing mission symbols and had a black tail. This bird was remarkable for having broken THREE nose gear struts during the cruise, and carried appropriate “nose strut kill markings” to prove it! The second is Modex 105, with LT Craig “Crunch” Snyder & LCDR Daniel “Sully” Sullivan’s names painted on the rails. This bird had a specially created medal painted on the nose emblazoned with the phrase “I Gave So Others Could Fly.” OK, this jet flew combat missions in spirit, if not in fact! Well, at least various parts of it flew missions since it was the spare parts bird.
