Messerschmitts Bf 109 Doras #2. This set showcases four famous early 109s. First is Bf 109 D-1, 6-56, Hptm Gotthard Handrick, Kommandeur J/88, Legion Condor, August, 1938. Handrick added the first initial of his last name (“H”) to the center of the Spanish Nationalist national insignia on the fuselage. Next is the night fighter Bf 109 D-1, White N+7, 10.(N)/JG 26, Johannes “Macki” Steinhoff (who eventually scored 176 victories including some in the Me 262), Norway, Jever, 1940. Another Norway bird, but sporting a different style of markings Bf 109 D-1 night fighter, Yellow N+11, 12.(N)/JG 2, Norway, 1940. The final subject is Bf 109 D-1, White 2, 1./ZG 2, August, 1939, which carried the large Bernberger Jج«_هّهبger (the hunter from Bernberg) unit insignia under the canopy.
