Description
Bf 109 Early Messerschmitts #3. Four extremely famous early birds grace this set. First is Bf 109 D-1, Yellow 1, 3./JG 21, Gutenfeld, East Prussia, September, 1939, during the Polish campaign and the subject of many German propaganda photos from that period. Next is Bf 109 D-1, Red 11, 2./JG 71, Fج«_جخ_rstenfeldbruck, August, 1939. This is another machine from the Polish campaign that appeared frequently in propaganda photos. The weeping raven unit insignia referred to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, who often carried an umbrella. This insignia was later adopted by II./JG 51. Note the camouflage patterns actually applied to Yellow 1 and Red 11 differed greatly from the “official” pattern for the early 109s. Truly striking is Bf 109 D-1, Yellow 5, 2./JGr 176, Gablingen, August 1939. The huge red/white sharkmouth and yellow spinner are impossible to miss, and our decal exactly matches the photos of this bird. The final subject is the very early Spanish Civil War Bf 109 B-1, 6-3, 2.J/88, Legion Condor, Herrera de Pisuerga, October, 1937. As with all Condor Legion 109s, the top hat insignia here was hand painted and differed greatly from every other ship.
